Phantom Thief

Abilities:
-Charisma that draws many people to him. He’s especially good at getting people who are troubled to open up to him because he understands the underdog in society. He is one.
-Ability to not only summon his persona, Arsene, but to hold many masks and many Personas within his heart. Also known as the power of the wild card.
-Persona’s come with a variety of abilities: curative magic, physical and magical barriers,elemental magic, psychic and nuclear magic...it’s very overpowered. These abilities allow him to fight Shadows in the Metaverse.
-Proficiency with a grappling hook
-A second sight that allows him to spot objects in the Metaverse and reality that normal people can’t.
-Resourcefulness. Every person he comes in contact with he makes a point to learn from whether it’s cooking or sleuthing skills.
-He’s observant and a quick thinker. He caught Akechi’s misstep early and that saved his life.

(Optional) Personality:
Ren is not someone who maintains the status quo. He refuses to ignore the weak in society or those who are vulnerable and in trouble - to a fault. In fact, it was trying to help a woman who was being harassed that got him a false assault charge and a criminal record. When told to walk away he didn’t back down. Unfortunately for him, the guy he pissed off was pretty powerful. However, even after getting in deep trouble for standing up for someone he didn’t change his world view. He refused to ignore Anne Takamaki when he accidentally overheard her conversation with the teacher who was sexually harassing her. He also sticks by Ryuji’s side both in the real world and the Metaverse even though it would be easier to just walk away from him. He helps Mona escape from his cage and seems to just accept the strange, talking cat. You could say, that Ren has a soft spot for the misfits and rebels. After all, he knows how it feels to be unfairly labeled and shunned.

He has strong sense of justice and will even call his friends out if he catches them doing wrong. One such example is when Mishima wanted to use the Phansite for selfish reasons or when the other boy was misappropriating site funds. That being said, Joker does respect the free will of those around him. When he confronted Mishima in the Metaverse he talked to him and told him to come to a decision on his own rather than just changing his heart. There is a strict code in the Phantom Thieves of only going after the truly wicked. The only exception was Futaba Sakura, and that was because she personally asked the thieves to steal her heart.

Rather than let the crummy adults around him squash him, he, Morgana, Anne and Ryuji form the group known as the Phantom Thieves and swear to reform the world and protect the weak and exploited. His refusal to be jaded is often a source of annoyance, admiration and envy to his rival, Goro Akechi, who has also been dealt some pretty unfair cards and misused by the adults around him.

Ren won’t hesitate to take down a villain, but he’s opposed to killing them. He’s capable of empathizing with those who he’s on the opposite side of giving Akechi a second chance to join them after betraying them and keeping Dr. Maruki from falling to his death inside of his own palace. Even when Akechi chastised him for not killing him and Dr. Maruki told Ren to leave him, the leader of the Phantom Thieves did not change his stance.


He’s been shown to keep his composure under stressful or even traumatizing situations in general. He wouldn’t sell out his team or accomplices to Prosecutor Sae Nijima, even when faced with a harsh prison sentence. He also remains calm at school when being interrogated by the police about the Phantom Thieves as well as remaining aloof when it’s obvious that people like Makoto or Akechi are trying to draw him into saying too much or saying the wrong thing. He’s not someone who can be bought or conned - he turned down both Akechi, Shido and Maruki’s attempts to recruit him.

Joker (his code name in the Metaverse) also tends to be kind of daredevil, vaulting through a window in full view of a crowd and making himself a sole target so that his team can escape. His plan to get caught is one that was very dangerous and one that can get you killed in game if you don’t make the right choices. High risk, high reward.

Ren also has the ability to get along with and blend in with people of many backgrounds. From the detective to the former yakuza member, to the teacher to the delinquent, Ren can make connections. He does genuinely like and care about people giving a huge boost to his charisma. Also, a resourceful and curious soul that he is, if they have hobbies he wants to hear about them. You never know what could come in handy to a Phantom Thief.
